Shopping as a hijabi in today’s world has actually gotten a lot EASIER!
We can see it all over social media; hijabi models being used in runways, part of major YouTube or makeup advertisements. However, our neighborhood friendly shopping malls may not have the most hijabi friendly outfits during all the seasons (especially summer – God help me). We’ve all had those moments. Seeing a gorgeous sun dress, till you take it off the rack and see slits on the side. Cute sweaters that have the best knitting but cropped at the stomach. Jeans that are the perfect wash and size but with holes in the knees. I could go on and on..
Over the past few years, I’ve compiled a list of websites – some Muslim-based and others not – that have gained great admiration amongst hijabis and other women.
Here’s a list of some of my favourites and many others shopping websites. If you’re looking to ring in the new year with a new wardrobe, i promise you they will not dissapoint!
This website has an AMAZING selection of clothes that are hijabi friendly, and items for those days you spend non-hijab with your ladies. Now I know what you’re thinking. At first glance, the website gives off an interesting vibe, to say the least, which doesn’t really scream “hijabi appropriate”. But by using the search bar, type in the following keywords to find long tunics and shift dresses for any occasion:
- Tunic dress
- Shift dress
- Shirt dress
- Longline (cardigan, top, dress, coat, etc.)
Another great perk? The website always has amazing discounts and sales, such as 50% off all stock, including shoes and accessories. With affordable shipping and reasonable prices, this website a number one go-to when looking for clothes to suit all occasions. Just make sure to read the product description of each item; while it may look great on the model, the material may not be what you expect.
Located in Turkey, Modanisa has gained popularity over this past year for their vast selection of hijabs, dresses, skirts, and almost everything you can think of. While I personally do not purchase their everyday wear, their evening dresses and silk hijabs are very wedding appropriate and modest. During this past summer, I attended eight weddings and this website was an absolute lifesaver. I purchased two dresses (both under $50 USD) and was extremely happy with the quality, sizing, and style of the dresses. Think of Modanisa like an online modest department store.
Although international shipping is free, your postage delivery company may require you to pay duty fees at your door (depending on your location). However, the products are definitely worth the added fees. If you have a fancy event to attend to, I would definitely recommend looking into Modanisa as your one-stop-shop for modest evening and day wear.
I’ve only recently discovered this website and I can honestly say I will be purchasing from them again in the future. This website is especially great for those living in Australia or the UK, as you’re eligible for student discounts. While this website also gives a non-hijabi appeal, I have seen many different sweaters and longer coats that are absolutely hijabi friendly. Their sweater dresses are to die for, not to mention they have a huge collection of different styles for everyone’s needs. Similar to Boohoo, they have a variety of sales running on the site. If you’re looking for clothes suitable for school and work, Misguided will work for you.
- Verona Collection
Verona offers a wide variety of everyday dresses and hijabs catered to everyday looks. Their cardigans, sundresses, and chiffon hijabs are perfect for the spring and summer weather. Designs are simple yet elegant, perfect for those busy Eid and Ramadan days when you want to look effortlessly flawless AND modest. The chiffon hijabs are both large in length and width, with some of the most amazing hues.
- Inayah Collection
If you’re willing to break the bank a bit for a more minimalist and elegant appeal, Inayah C is the collection for you. As their items are targeted towards more affluent buyers, Inayah C has everything from modest workwear, elegant evening dresses, and pure silk hijabs. Shipping ranges for different international zones, costing around £24.99 or less. Another great thing about this site is that their items are custom made to fit any height and/or size. Think of it similar to Verona Collection, but slightly pricier and worth the minimalistic appeal.
- Alhayaa hijabs
Starting its retail business on Instagram, this independent hijab company based out of Toronto sells almost every material of hijabs that can be shipped internationally. From cotton, chiffon, viscose, and crinkle hijabs, Al Hayaa hijabs is my all-time favourite website to buy hijabs from. Reasonably priced and gorgeous hues perfect for any occasion. I would recommend using this website to order hijabs if you’re in North America, as shipping is cheaper and affordable in comparison to other websites.
The Southeast Asian online shopping hub for modest, minimalist, and gorgeous clothing. Bloggers and Instagrammers like Dina Tokio, Saufeeya Goodson, and Anisa Stoffel can be seen sporting both casual and fancy ensembles from Poplook. From of all these websites, Poplook offers the most diversity with regards to hijab styles. With a wide range of different patterns, cuts, and colors for hijabs – such as square, lace, jersey, chiffon, print, etc – Poplook doesn’t fail to offer a look for everyone. And the clothes! Two words: elegant and affordable. Not only do they have cute jumpsuits, dresses, tunics and wide trousers, but they also carry breast-feeing friendly and children’s clothing. Poplook is the one-stop shop for all of your Muslimah needs.
So, while online shopping intimidates so many of you, you’ll never know the hidden gems of the internet unless you try. Myself and many others have had amazing experiences with these websites, and you shall too as you venture into newer and more modest ensembles. Last thing! Always make sure to check your measurements; each website has a different size guide to fit every body type.
