The wise Dr. Seuss once said:
“Today you are You,
that is truer than true.
There is no one alive
who is you-er than You.”
I grew up listening to people (most of them strangers) about the “normalization” in the etiquette of dressing up, studies and even behavioral pattern. But what is normal? And what makes their form of normal outweigh yours?
Here is what I believe:
1. Normal is An Abstract Term That Could Literally Mean Anything
For example, I like to eat my instant noodles with bread. ‘How?’ you ask. Well, like a sandwich, I place the proper amount of delicious noodles between two slices of bread. ‘Why?’ you ask. Because I believe it’s normal for me, and if you believe in something that not only makes you happy but also satisfies you, then you should believe in it too.
2. There’s A Reason Why the Word ‘You’ Exists
Seven billion is the figure that resides in this world. To generalize them would be an impossible task, physically and mentally. Do you know how incredibly silly it is to constantly use ‘us’ or ‘we’ just to refer yourself? Just like snowflakes, there are no two identical kinds, so stand out and be brave. We’re already different enough as it is, so why mask it?
3. Life is Short
Tomorrow is never guaranteed nor will be your happiness be if you can’t escape the dreadful normal that has been defined by somebody else’s. Break the barrier and the conception of standardization, be the beautiful human being that God has created you to be, and liberate that special element that makes you especially you.
