We’ve already covered how amazing lemon is, with its a million and one uses around the house. We’ve discussed on how lemons could help with laundry, and now in this one, find out how lemons can help make your house not only look good, but smell good too!

  1. Refresh your Refrigerator

Refresh your refrigerator with the natural scent of lemon. Just remove all the mouldy food culprit, and throw old food out. Have an easy wipe down of the shelves and walls with some water and lemon juice. That’ll remove all the odour and have your refrigerator smelling clean!

2. Clean Your Microwave

Have your microwave clean and fresh with this simple trick. Simply place a few lemon slices into a bowl of water in the microwave. Set it for 30 seconds, and you’ll see the magical wonders of lemon. Not only will the grime melt away, your microwave will be smelling like that wonderful natural zest!

3. Cleanse Your Chopping Board

If your chopping boards have seen better days, this next tip is for you. After all the chopping of onions, garlic, and meats of all kinds, your board needs a proper scrub down. Just simply use half a lemon, and rub it all over the board. This will help get it squeaky lemony clean.

4. Ward off Insects

Keep those pesky bugs away with the help of lemon! Squeeze some lemon juice on the openings in your house, such as doorways, windowsills and even holes and cracks! This should help in keeping ants, roaches and other insects away from your home.

5. Natural Food Wash for Fruits and Vegetables

Wash your fruits and vegetables with this natural solution! Reduce risks of ingesting pesticides and herbicides, with a glass of 1 part lemon juice to 3 parts of water. Another advantage to this, would be that this helps preventing fruits and vegetables from turning brown, and could even help keep lettuces retain their crisp longer.

6. Make the Metal Shine Again!

Are the metals in your life dull? Has it become worse for wear and lost its shine? Don’t worry, lemons can help! Simply concoct a paste with lemon juice and salt, and apply generously on that dull surface area. Leave it for 5 minutes, then rinse with warm water and finish up with a quick polish. You’ll see the difference, as if it was magic!

Tip: This also applies for steel sinks and taps. Just apply the paste to the surface, scrub gently and rinse.

7. A Fresh Scented Room Humidifier

Easily freshen the air in your home with the simple use of lemon. Just place a pot of water, with lemon peels and a few spices such as cinnamon sticks on the stove, and let it gently simmer. You’ll have your house smelling fresh and sweet, in no time! Make sure you don’t forget to switch off the stove, though.

8. Scrub-a dub-dub with Lemons: Make Your Dishes Sparkle

Boost your dish detergent, with just a dash of lemon. Adding a teaspoon of lemon juice to the bowl of detergent will help in removing that stubborn grease stain and take out that grime!
