“Why martial arts?” is a question people ask me, when I say I’m practicing a certain type of martial arts.
People might say they pick up martial art as a way to defend themselves, to fight in competitions and some might just want to have a more interesting workout routine.
As for me, I do martial arts mainly because of its benefits for the body. It helps a lot in building up your core strength, as well as your body to be fitter than ever. Even if you haven’t done any martial arts before, it is a beneficial activity to pick up as an adult. Here are five reasons why you should consider picking up martial arts as a fitness routine!
1.Total Body Workout
Martial arts itself can be considered as a high-aerobic workout that uses every muscle in the body. Your stamina, flexibility, balance and core strength will improve overall through combat training. Not only does it increase our muscle tone, it also helps to improve one’s cardiovascular health.
2. Learn to be more disciplined and focused
As Bruce Lee stated, behind the punches, kicks and knees, a true martial artist learns to sit with himself and see where his weaknesses are. By practicing martial arts, we can learn to be more focused, disciplined and generate an active lifestyle.
3. Losing weight
Since martial arts is a form of high intensity workout, the amount of calories burned is also pretty incredible. An hour of martial arts work out can lead to about 500 calories burned!
In martial arts, the concept of developing self-confidence is shown due to the goal setting, positive encouragement and respect for values. By having more self-confidence, you become more comfortable in all situations, as we can adapt to different situations more easily.
5. Ensure a healthy lifestyle
By participating in the activities, you will naturally start to think about eating healthy and having more control in what sort of substances you consume for your body.
Not only can martial arts lead to the person developing better reflexes, the sport also teaches great morals and values in order to possess the right attitude, frame of mind and virtues that will be useful in the modern world.
So what are you waiting for? Maybe it’s time to sign up for a martial arts lesson!
